Naoko Takeuchi got her start in the world of girls comics in Nakayoshi Deluxe magazine, which features up and coming artists. Her work was so popular that she was given the opportunity to begin publishing alongside other major artists in Nakayoshi magazine, a monthly phone book publication that serializes the most popular girls comics series in Japan. Later, Naoko Takeuchi became so popular that her work was also featured in a spin-off publication called RunRun for the all-star artists of Nakayoshi magazine.
Below, you can find a collection of Naoko Takeuchi’s work as originally published in various Japanese girls comics compilations. This is a unique collection; there are over 200 magazines in which Naoko Takeuchi’s work was originally serialized in. All of the old magazines are out-of-print, extremely difficult to find, and can only be bought via private auction at incredibly high prices. Our goal in amassing this collection was extremely ambitious, and was only possible thanks to an anonymous donor who graciously provided the financial backing to help us afford buying all of these magazines.
All of these images were scanned by hand by MarioKnight, sassypants678, and Pixeluna in 600 DPI. They are extremely high quality. We wanted to preserve these printings so that they would not be lost to the sands of Nakayoshi back issues. This ambitious collection is the only one of its kind online, so if you decide to use these images for anything, please link Miss Dream and cite us as a source. We want to be able to share this astonishingly rare and massive collection with as many people as possible!
sassypants678 has written an extensive database of which issues of Nakayoshi magazine feature chapters of work by Naoko Takeuchi, for anyone interested in attempting to assemble this collection themselves :)
