Sailor Moon Perfect Edition (Kanzenban)

Beginning in November of 2013, the “Perfect Edition” (kanzenban/完全版) of the Sailor Moon manga went on sale in Japan.

The Sailor Moon Perfect Edition (Kanzenban) of the manga series features updated artwork and dialogue, as well as full color images from the original run of the series in Nakayoshi magazine from the 1990s. The books are printed in A5 size paper, with shimmery, partially-holographic covers with brand-new artwork. We at Miss Dream have bought this entire set, and have scanned them by hand at 600 DPI for the highest quality images possible. These scans are in Japanese language, and there is no English-version of them (yet. *smirk*)

The Facts:

    1. All of the covers feature new art work by Naoko Takeuchi
    2. All color pages that were printed in the Nakayoshi serialization of the comic are included
    3. These are printed on A5 size paper, so they are significantly larger than previous editions
    4. Features digitally remastered artwork, all reviewed and approved by Naoko Takeuchi!
    5. Sailor Moon short stories are included throughout the volumes
    6. Sets include entry tickets for a 20th anniversary prize raffle!

The Sailor Moon Perfect Edition (Kanzenban) manga is also noteworthy because it is much larger than any previous edition of the Sailor Moon manga releases. Not only are the pages themselves larger, but the books are longer in length; a typical volume has about 300 pages. Compared against the original book release of Sailor Moon (tankoubon format), which was 192 pages, this is about 50% larger than the typical size of a Japanese pocket comic. The Sailor Moon Perfect Edition (Kanzenban) manga also feature updated translations for the word “senshi” – whereas the series used to be called “Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon”, it is now uniformly referred to as “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon” throughout; similar to the shinsoubon edition of the Sailor Moon manga.

The best part of the Sailor Moon Perfect Edition (Kanzenban) of the manga, in my opinion, are the color pages. I went on a two year long hunt to track down all of the original publications of Sailor Moon chapters in Nakayoshi magazine for these illustrations; it is extremely convenient to get textless versions of these beautiful and rare illustrations in the Sailor Moon Perfect Edition of the manga. Definitely check them out!

Hi! I’m thinking to buy Sailor Moon mangas but I’m not sure which edition to buy..what do you think about the newest edition? Does it have any difference? Except the more colored pages and the glossy pages..

They’re physically larger, and the artwork is REALLY improved. The digitization process really cleaned up the work. I definitely recommend buying a copy!

Neither do 7 – 10. Those will become actual pages as we finish them up. Keep an eye on the main page or follow us on social media to see when they go online!

Everything is speculation currently. Originally Sailor Moon was announced for 10 and that there was going to be a Sailor V release, though it wasn’t said over how many volumes. Short stories have been littered about the kanzenbans and there’s no way Stars won’t be completed in 9 and 10. Since there hasn’t been any announcements, we’re in a wait and see status.

Oh my. I already have the Shinsouban edition so there is no need for me to get this edition too right? I’ll think only get the Codename wa Sailor V if it is translated into English.

These are seriously so beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing. I cannot wait until you start translating this version into English and sharing them. I am so pleased with how this edition turned out. I really hope that now so much hype has been built up around the new series and VIZ’s re-release that Kodansha may opt to start releasing this edition in english sooner than later. ;) (a girl can dream.) xo

Wow – I don’t know whether or not I’m more offended that you think I should have done this by now because ~your schedule~ demands it, or because I should just automatically do it because ~the publishers~ have released it. =\ I mean jeaz. Way to be grateful for the fact that you can download any of these albums, at all, period, from me – at no cost to you.

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t really like the covers for these kanzenban… something just seems so off about the way it’s colored…

I was thrilled to find your translations of the original, and now these just look so beautiful… Can’t wait to see your interpretation of the updated dialogue! Out of curiosity, how long does it take you to translate these super-sized books? Thanks for all your hard work!

I’ve translated all of them already. However, because of understaffing of graphical designers, I have no idea when I’ll be able to publish the updated series online. =\

I want to buy the new edition of Sailor Moon, but I am not sure if there is an english edition of the Kanzeban.

What do you think, should I buy the last english edition via Amazon or not?

Do you know if they will ever release an English translated version of this, I’ve been googling my heart out and checking amazon and Naoko’s site but no English version even though they finished these. Did you ever see anything about them doing it later on?

My name is Kei, and I had a burst of “nostalgia” today.
I wanted to re-read the manga from my childhood, yet I did not imagine I would find such an amazing website/database such as Miss Dream!!!

I truly appreciate all the dedication…Thank you so so much for all you do for us!

I am now going to go through the whole Kanzenban :)

I thought all the pages are in color? When I click on individual volumes the majority of the pages are still in black and white. I thought it was all restored?
